FAQ

Frequently asked questions about the functionality of the footbett application. If you have any particular questions not answered here please use the Contact form to ask us your questions.

How are the matches predicted?

Match predictions are based on a custom made algorithm that has been developed using over 40,000 previous match results. This algorithm takes into account the home and away teams' results over their last 10 matches with earlier matches given more influence. Whether the matches were home or away affects the calculation as well as the match result odds, number of goals scored and conceded, number of corners and number of cards are all taken into account to give the best prediction possible. The last 5 head to head results between the home and away teams are also used to affect the form.

If the difference in form is great enough then the match will be predicted as either a home or away win. If the home and away team form scores are close to each other and the predicted goals are equal then the match is predicted as a draw.

What are the correct prediction percentages?

In general footbett has a correct prediction rate of over 50%. With a higher correct percentage given to home wins, then away wins and with draw predictions being the most unreliable.

Of those matches that are correctly predicted around 40% also have the correct score predicted.

The average odds for match predictions are 1.9 for home wins, 2.5 for away wins and 3.3 for drawn matches.

Does footbett take into account player injuries and transfers?

Currently footbett only uses the team form and head to head results to make a prediction and is why footbett is marketed as an aid to making match predictions. You can see the detailed results of any prediction between 2 teams and use this data along with your own knowledge of the teams to make a prediction. Future developements will take into account more variables to improve the prediction percentages.

Can I predict matches between teams in different leagues?

You can select teams from different leagues but predictions between them will not take into account the levels of the different leagues. The footbett algorithm is designed to be used on teams within the same leagues for the best possible prediction results.

How are relegated and promoted teams different?

When determining form scores for relegated and promoted teams any previous matches that were for a higher or lower division to the one that the team is currently in is given a higher or lower weighted rating to account for the change in division of the team. This helps give better results for those teams but footbett will perform best when the first few games of a season are underway.

My match prediction is missing data?

Some teams do not have detailed match data for corners and cards so that data will not be included in match predictions. However all teams have results and goals information which are the key points to the prediction algorithm.
